The Punjab BJP has sought “one chance to serve Punjab” from voters, saying the party can bring major development to the state through a double-engine government at the Centre and in Punjab.

Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon, BJP general secretary organization for Punjab and Chandigarh Manthri Srinivasulu, and party state media head Vineet Joshi interacted with print media journalists on Friday evening.

The leaders said Punjab voters had given every other party an opportunity to govern the state, and the BJP was now asking for a chance to prove what it could deliver.

The BJP leadership firmly ruled out any possibility of an alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal. Dhillon said there was no room for such a tie-up and added that the media should move on from the issue.

He said the BJP would contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab. According to Dhillon, the party already has three or more aspirants in several constituencies.

Manthri Srinivasulu said the BJP could no longer play the role of a conductor in an alliance bus driven by another party. He said the party did not want to remain a back-seat driver, as its own promises and policies often got overshadowed when another party controlled the alliance.

Responding to questions about a possible Akali Dal alliance, Manthri asked why the BJP could not form a government on its own in Punjab when the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party had both done so without tying up with the Akalis.

Dhillon claimed that the BJP had solutions to Punjab’s major problems, including drugs, unemployment, gangsterism, and corruption.

He also said the party would ensure a minimum support price on all crops, similar to what the BJP government was doing in Haryana.

Vineet Joshi cited the example of potato growers and said farmers in Punjab were getting low prices for their produce, while the same crop was selling at better rates across the border in Haryana. He claimed the difference was due to governance.

The BJP leaders also acknowledged that issues such as river water-sharing, the transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab, and the release of Bandi Sikhs had remained unresolved for years.

Manthri said these issues could be resolved through dialogue if BJP governments were in power in Punjab, Haryana, and the center.

Dhillon said the BJP had been working quietly for Punjab and had provided thousands of crores for Sikh gurdwaras and for the state’s development.

With the monsoon increasing the threat of floods, he said BJP leaders, circle heads, and booth-level workers were already assessing flood relief preparedness on the ground and were ready to assist people in case of emergency.
