Heavy rainfall continued to lash parts of Uttarakhand on Thursday, triggering a landslide near Surkanda Devi Temple in Kaddukhal area of Tehri Garhwal.
Portions of a hotel and a house collapsed after the rain-soaked hillside gave way near the popular pilgrimage site.
Videos circulating on social media showed the structures crumbling within seconds as debris came down the slope.
According to the District Disaster Management Department, Tehri Garhwal, no casualties or injuries have been reported in the incident.
Officials said the landslide occurred near a row of shops along National Highway 707A at Kaddukhal.
An old vacant building was damaged in the landslide.
Two restaurants, roadside kiosks and labour huts located in the vulnerable zone had already been evacuated before the collapse.
Officials said timely evacuation helped prevent any loss of life.
The District Disaster Management Department said no casualties or loss of livestock had been reported.
According to the district administration, preliminary information suggests that the landslide may have been triggered by excavation work being carried out for the construction of a private hotel near the site.
Authorities are assessing the extent of damage and examining the factors that led to the slope failure.
Heavy to moderate rainfall has been continuing across several parts of Uttarakhand since Wednesday night.
The rainfall has increased the risk of landslides in hilly districts.
Officials have advised residents and pilgrims to remain alert and avoid vulnerable stretches during the ongoing monsoon spell.
The administration is monitoring the affected area and taking necessary safety measures.
