A 38-year-old woman from Jaipur has been arrested for allegedly planning to travel to Pakistan through Nepal to marry a suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed commander, officials said on Thursday.

The woman has been identified as Babita Dhakad alias Khadija. According to investigators, she was allegedly in contact with people linked to the Pakistan-based banned terror outfit and had been under military intelligence watch for several weeks.

The Rajasthan Police Anti-Terror Squad arrested her on Sunday and booked her under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. She has been sent to police custody till June 27.

Officials said forensic examination of her electronic devices revealed several Pakistani phone numbers. Some of these numbers are suspected to be linked to people associated with JeM, including Yusuf Azhar, a close relative of Jaish chief Masood Azhar, and Qari Zarar, who is wanted in India in several cases.

According to officials, Babita lived at her parents’ house in Jaipur’s Sitapura area. During questioning, she allegedly told investigators that she began searching for Pakistani terrorists on social media after the Pahalgam attack in 2025. She later connected with several people linked to extremist circles through Facebook and WhatsApp.

Investigators said she initially browsed Facebook pages related to Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and sent random friend requests to followers of those pages. Over time, she allegedly came in contact with Pakistani nationals and profiles associated with JeM supporters.

Officials said chats, videos, and contact details allegedly linked to members of the banned outfit were recovered from her devices. She is also accused of sharing one-time passwords linked to Indian mobile numbers with a JeM operative, allowing those numbers to be used on communication platforms from Pakistan.

The FIR states that Babita developed emotional ties with a person identified as Abu Ubaidah, who allegedly encouraged her to learn Islamic teachings and later asked her to come to Pakistan. Investigators said she was also advised to obtain a passport for the proposed travel.

According to officials, Babita discussed possible travel routes through Nepal, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The accused and her handlers also allegedly discussed arranging funds through cryptocurrency, after which she downloaded crypto-related applications and searched for information about them online.

Sources said the woman spent several hours chatting and video-calling with Abu Ubaidah. She later came to know that he was already married, which reportedly left her disappointed.

Investigators also claimed that she had searched online for ways to make explosives. However, officials said a detailed technical analysis of her mobile phone and digital records will be carried out to verify the inputs gathered during questioning.

Officials said Babita was married in 2018 but separated from her husband soon after. They added that the case is mainly focused on her alleged online links with Pakistan-based JeM members and supporters, her suspected travel plans, and the material recovered from her devices.

The investigation is underway to trace the wider network, financial links, and possible role of cross-border handlers in the case.
