The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited has said that normal electricity supply has been restored for farmers across the state after brief disruptions during the peak paddy transplantation season.

PSPCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Dr. Basant Garg said agricultural feeders in Punjab are now receiving up to 20 hours of electricity supply. He said the additional supply is being provided to compensate farmers for the temporary shortfall reported earlier.

According to Dr. Garg, the state’s power situation has returned to normal, and agricultural feeders have received up to 20 hours of electricity during the past 24 hours.

He said that between June 27 and June 30, some agricultural feeders received only six to seven hours of supply instead of the scheduled eight hours.

The temporary reduction was caused by a sharp increase in electricity demand during the severe heat wave, limited power availability on the power exchange, and a strike by contractual workers at thermal power plants, which affected generation.

Dr. Garg said that despite these challenges, PSPCL continued to operate round the clock and ensured six to seven hours of daily power supply to farmers.

He added that the contractual workers’ strike has now been withdrawn and thermal power-generating units are back in operation. With this, normal electricity supply has been fully restored across Punjab.

The PSPCL CMD said the corporation has started providing extra electricity to affected agricultural feeders to make up for the temporary shortfall. He assured farmers that they would not suffer due to circumstances beyond their control.

To ensure uninterrupted irrigation during the ongoing paddy transplantation season, PSPCL has made special operational arrangements.

Field officers have been instructed to closely monitor feeder-wise supply, optimize power availability, and respond quickly to local power-related issues.

Dr. Garg reiterated that protecting farmers’ interests remains PSPCL’s top priority. He assured us that every affected farmer would receive additional electricity to compensate for the earlier disruption.
