Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Saturday broke his silence over the ongoing resentment within the party after former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s Morinda meeting.
Warring said Channi was like an elder brother and rejected claims of factionalism within the Punjab Congress.
“Channi sahib is our elder brother, a senior leader, and a former chief minister. If some Congress leaders meet at his house, there is nothing wrong with that,” Warring said.
He added that party leaders could also gather at his residence or at Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa’s house in the future, and such meetings should not be seen as signs of infighting.
The statement came after several Congress leaders met at Channi’s residence in Morinda to express dissatisfaction over the recent Punjab Congress organizational reshuffle.
Warring said there was no factionalism in the Punjab Congress and expressed confidence that all senior leaders would soon appear together on a common platform.
He said neither Channi nor any other senior leader had acted against the interests of the party.
However, Warring warned that strict action would be taken against former MLAs or leaders found making statements against the party or indulging in indiscipline.
The remarks come at a time when the Congress is trying to project unity ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, despite visible unease among some leaders over recent organizational appointments.
