RJD supremo Lalu Prasad on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, alleging that compromised constitutional institutions and right-wing politics were posing serious challenges to Indian democracy.

In a written message issued on the occasion of the RJD’s 30th Foundation Day, Prasad said democratic, progressive, socialist, and constitutional forces across the country were facing difficult times.

He alleged that constitutional institutions had been compromised and that an aggressive market economy, use of money power, and reactionary right-wing politics had created serious threats to the foundations of democracy.

Prasad claimed that money power was being used not only to influence voters but also to buy elected representatives.

He also alleged that issues such as representation of backward communities, equal opportunities in education and employment, rights and security of minorities, and government failures were being hidden behind the cloak of Hindutva.

Recalling the formation of the Rashtriya Janata Dal on July 5, 1997, Prasad said the party was founded to fight for the rights and dignity of the poor, oppressed, marginalized, and minorities.

He said the day was not ordinary, as it marked a turning point in the politics of Bihar and the country.

Prasad thanked RJD leaders, colleagues, and workers who had stood with the party through different phases of its journey.

He said the RJD had always remained committed to the cause of the poor, deprived, marginalized, vulnerable, and oppressed sections of society.

The former Bihar Chief Minister said the party’s politics remained rooted in the fight against social and economic inequality and communalism.

He added that the RJD was committed to ensuring equal participation of the poorest and the last person in society in every aspect of development.

Prasad said the party’s commitment to the ideals of Ram Manohar Lohia, Jayaprakash Narayan, Karpoori Thakur, and B. R. Ambedkar had become stronger over time.

He said the RJD must now complete the struggle for economic and psychological empowerment.

In the present atmosphere of opportunism, pessimism, and uncertainty, Prasad claimed that the RJD was the only political party capable of fulfilling the aspirations of people in need.
