A boat carrying several Indian tourists capsized near Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island on Saturday, prompting search and rescue operations by local authorities.
Local media reports have claimed that 15 people have died in the incident. However, there has been no official confirmation of the deaths from the Indian Embassy so far.
The Indian Embassy in Hanoi confirmed the incident in a post on X, saying a boat carrying Indian tourists had capsized near Phu Quoc Island.
The embassy said exact details of the incident were being ascertained as search and rescue operations by local authorities were still underway.
The Indian mission has set up control rooms at the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City and at the Embassy in Hanoi to provide information and assistance.

Authorities said the boat was carrying 32 Indian tourists and four crew members when it capsized.
According to local daily VnExpress, the speedboat was travelling from Hon May Rut Island to An Thoi Port when it capsized around 400 metres from the shore.
The report added that rough sea conditions were prevailing in the area at the time of the incident.
Indian authorities are in touch with local officials as rescue operations continue near Phu Quoc Island.
