Mumbai Police have arrested television actor Rohit Chandel for allegedly stalking, harassing, and assaulting a 16-year-old girl in an eastern suburb of the city.
Chandel, 29, is known for his roles in ‘Kashibai Bajirao Ballal’ and ‘Pandya Store.’ He is currently appearing in the television show ‘Sairaab.’
The actor, who is a resident of Dahisar, was produced before a special court on Friday.
The court remanded him to police custody.
Police have registered a case against Chandel under the POCSO Act, along with charges related to stalking and assault.
According to the girl’s complaint, she and Chandel knew each other before the alleged harassment began.
The actor is accused of repeatedly calling the minor girl.
When she stopped answering his calls, he allegedly used different phone numbers to continue contacting her.
The complaint stated that the matter escalated on July 5.
Chandel allegedly confronted the teenager near her residential building, chased her, argued with her, abused her, and assaulted her.
The girl later approached her local police station and reported the incident.
Following her complaint, police registered an FIR against Chandel.
A police official said the case had been registered on the basis of the minor girl’s complaint and that further investigation was underway.
Police are planning to obtain CCTV footage from the area and record the girl’s detailed statement.
Chandel has not issued any public response to the allegations so far.
