India and Japan on Thursday announced a series of agreements aimed at expanding cooperation in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, defense, energy, healthcare, critical minerals, and economic security.

The agreements were unveiled after the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit in New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

The summit signaled that India and Japan are looking beyond traditional areas of cooperation and preparing for a future shaped by technology, supply-chain resilience, and economic security.

Artificial intelligence, semiconductors, defense, and energy dominated the discussions, reflecting the growing strategic convergence between New Delhi and Tokyo amid global uncertainty.

Welcoming Takaichi on her first visit to India as prime minister, Modi highlighted the deep civilizational ties between the two countries. He said India and Japan share a relationship built on trust, cultural connections, and shared democratic values.

The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in emerging technologies and secure supply chains. Critical minerals and semiconductor collaboration were also key focus areas, as both countries look to reduce dependence on limited global suppliers and build resilient technology ecosystems.

Defense cooperation also remained high on the agenda. The talks focused on deepening strategic coordination and strengthening regional stability in the Indo-Pacific.

Energy and healthcare were also included in the wider partnership framework. Both sides are expected to work on clean energy, innovation-driven growth, and people-centric development.

The India-Japan partnership has gained greater importance in recent years as both countries seek to enhance economic security and strengthen cooperation in sectors critical to future growth.

The latest agreements are expected to give fresh momentum to bilateral ties and further elevate India-Japan relations into a future-focused strategic partnership.
